Chris Hughton: Played down suggestions Brighton are emerging as promotion contenders

Brighton boss Chris Hughton played down suggestions that his side are emerging as promotion contenders after an early goal from Tomer Hemed extended their lead at the top of the Championship.
Hughton admitted he could not have envisaged that the Seagulls would have started so strongly, and felt their fifth win in six league games was a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent Shoreham Airshow disaster.
Albion honoured their groundsman Matt Grimstone and his Worthing United team-mate Jacob Schilt with a minute's applause before the game, and Hughton said:" A tribute can go two ways.
"It can draw you on and motivate you, and the way we started I would like to think that it inspired the players.
"It was a fitting tribute by the club and it was a fitting day; in particular for the two lads."

Highlights of Brighton's 1-0 win over Hull in the Sky Bet Championship

Brighton finished 20th last season and asked whether his new-look team could turn into genuine promotion contenders, former Newcastle, Birmingham and Norwich manager Hughton replied: "We wanted to be in a position where we could at least challenge to go up. That is still the case.
"We've made a tremendous start and I could not have envisaged it. I was hopeful we could challenge better. At the moment the margins are going our way.
"Just now we have fit players and good options, and we have continued the momentum following the international break."

Steve Bruce: Labelled the amount of mid-week travelling his side must do as

Hull manager Steve Bruce admitted his side were "too up and down away from home" after a slow start cost them before a crowd of 24,815 at the Amex Stadium.
He said: "It took us at least 30 minutes to get going. In the second half we deserved a point as we dominated possession but we needed to create a couple of chances."
"At home we've been impressive but away from home we need to improve. We have been too up and down."
Hull visit Cardiff on Tuesday and Bruce labelled the amount of mid-week travelling his side must do as "ridiculous".
He added: "I'm not making excuses but it's ridiculous to go to Cardiff on Tuesday when there are at least six other teams that we could play.
"We've gone to Brighton and then it'll be Cardiff; it ridiculous the amount of travelling we have. It's not just the fans, it affects the players too. We should be playing somewhere up north."
Bruce felt that former Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone made a difference after he came on for David Meyler 15 minutes before the break.
"Tom controlled the game and made us better. Meyler got booked and the first 30 minutes were a struggle. We made the change and it made us better. Unfortunately, we couldn't find the goal that we needed."
