It has been quite a tough time, but that was a club and a community pulling together and it was a fitting and wonderful tribute "
Chris Hughton

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton praised his side's display on an emotional day, after his team produced a fitting performance to beat Hull City 1-0 at the Amex.He said, "Firstly, I would like to thank the players, staff, and supporters of Hull, who I thought were excellent today. It is a tragedy that affected us locally here very much but they were sympathetic.

"It has been quite a tough time, but that was a club and a community pulling together and it was a fitting and wonderful tribute - not only for this football club but more so for the local community.
*
"Sometimes in these types of games where you have tributes it can be a slow start but we started well and the team put on a fitting performance, especially for the two lads.
*
"We have been starting well in games this season. It is very difficult to keep that going for 90 minutes and almost impossible against the quality that Hull have got.
"They will certainly be challenging for the top six come the end of the season so to get the type of victory we did was pleasing because it was a different type of game."

Hughton felt his team should have made more of their dominance in the first half, but was delighted with a resolute display after the break to record a third successive home clean sheet.
"We had a really good period in the first half and probably needed to get that second goal. Then we had to defend very well for a fair chunk of the second half, but we did and a clean sheet was thoroughly deserved.
*
"I thought that we started very well and if you can score when you have that strong period then all the better. We defended very well.
"A second goal would have taken pressure off the team, but defensively clean sheets mean a lot to the goalkeeper, the back four and the team, and it shows that we are a tight team who are not going to lose easily."
Kazenga LuaLua will miss Tuesday's visit of Rotherham United having picked up five yellow cards in the opening eight games, but Hughton says that is a by-product of the winger's increased industry.
"When players pick up a silly booking then that can be frustrating. However, with someone like Kazenga and the type of player he is - someone who is working for the team – it's unfortunate but it comes with his game.
"He is working hard both ways. He is not somebody who is as natural tackler, but you need to look at the shift that he is putting in – which he needed to do today, particularly in that first half as they were very strong down that right hand side.”
