Attendances Thread

Early days but already some interesting stats as to average attendances in the Championship so far this season.

Not surprisingly the three relegated clubs, Hull, QPR & Burnley have seen average attendances lower than last campaign & the three promoted clubs in MK Dons, Bristol City & Preston seeing increased attendances.

However, of the 18 teams in the Championship last season, 8 have seen increased average attendances, with Middlesbrough leading the way in +16.5%, Birmingham +15.8% & Reading +12.0%.

10 clubs, including BHA have seen attendances lower. Cardiff down 28.4%, Forest down 19.9% & Huddersfield lower at 19.9%. Our attendances at 9.7% lower is the 5th biggest drop. Last campaign we averaged 26,169. This year so far 23,647.

Still impressive, with only Derby 29,762 & Leeds 25,135 with higher averages.

Thoughts?

Far too early to call this, given teams have only had two or three home games. Much will depend on derby / local / big team matches. Would be good to see after say 10 games

We're expensive compared to most although Sheffield Wednesday have had a huge increase in prices.
Crowds are normally smaller this time of the year anyway although cardiffs drop is unreal and hull always head back to the usual 16k or so unless they're doing well.
Think Derby have cheap season tickets

After the Hull game it is highly probable that our average attendance will be around 25K.
Special circumstances , attractive opposition etc etc.......,
After that a great deal will depend on our league position.

Derby I think did a deal linking season tickets this year to guarantees if they get promoted. They believe after splashing out big time and keeping hold of their best talent that they are nailed-on for promotion and indeed must still be favourites over the length of a season. They've had a bad start under a new manager but they've pre-sold the tickets so, rather like us last season, the actual performance levels aren't entirely relevant.

All goes to show that attendance stats whilst interesting can be massively misleading, especially after just a couple of games.

If we continue to entertain and remain around the top our attendances will probably be the biggest in the League again IMO. Sussex loves to be involved with a successful and attractive football team in a stunning stadium

Leeds always get a big crowd first game of the season and then drop off.

Our home games have been a Friday night and an unattractive fixture to many and not many away fans.

Something is not right.

Last season we played Nott F & Blackburn in Feb & Nov when we were lowly in the table. Average crowd over these two games was 25,553 - nearly 2000 more than now.

If we look at the two opening games at home in the last campaign Sheffield W 26,993 & Bolton 24,435 the average was 25,714 more than 2000 per match this time around.

Hopefully the poor gates at home so far (all relative) are only blips & we get more than the average of the last campaign of 26,169.

Probably because most of the Leeds fans are in the south and they save all summer to make that one home game a season:D

In a pile of football shirts
Do we have stats on actual fans attending:wozza:

Make a FOI request to B&H City Council, they will confirm the attendance for games, based on their safety records for each match, rather than the tickets sold.
