The Football League has announced that a minute's silence will be observed prior to all Capital One Cup second-round matches as a mark of respect to those that lost their lives in the Shoreham air disaster, including Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, who both played for Worthing United.
Grimstone, a goalkeeper, and Schilt, a midfielder, had been travelling to their Southern Combination Premier Division fixture when their vehicle was tragically struck by an aircraft as it crashed on to the A27.
Both men were supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, the club where Grimstone had also been employed for the last seven years, most recently as a member of the ground staff.
In April, Grimstone and Schilt played for Brighton supporters' team in the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund (REMF) match against Crystal Palace. *
Shaun Harvey, chief executive of the Football League, said: "This minute's silence will give football fans across the country the opportunity to pay their respects to Matthew, Jacob and all those who lost their lives in this terrible accident.
"On behalf of The Football League, our condolences go to everybody at Brighton and Hove Albion, Worthing United and to all those outside of the football family who have been rocked by Saturday's shocking events."
