The Seagulls opened the scoring after just 17 seconds through Beram Kayal’s superb strike, but the Israeli’s goal was cancelled out by a brilliant effort from Jacob Butterfield in the second half.
Hughton once again started with both Sam Baldock and Tomer Hemed upfront in a bid to secure a win, but was satisfied overall with the result.
“They played with a very narrow midfield so we knew that they had a lot of players in that area that are good on the ball - Butterfield is one we know a lot about – but we opted for the two up front again to in an aim to give us opportunities to win the game.
“I thought there were opportunities to win it, but the longer the game goes you can also lose it as well.
“We gave the ball away too readily, particularly in that second half and didn’t allow ourselves to work this ball through the thirds.
“But they are a quality side and will win games. At this moment we’ve had two games away from home, picking up a win and a draw. Overall we’ve got to be happy with that.”

He told htafc.com, “That first period of the game rocked us. It can be really hard when you have a game plan to counter the opposition’s strengths and capitalise on their weaknesses to get in the game, only to concede so early and put yourself under pressure.

“Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition, but we needed to make a tackle; our single attempt to do so didn’t get the ball or the man. They got the ball into an area where they could shoot and capitalised.

“We have to address that to give ourselves a better chance of winning games. It was a tough first half; the players were rocked on their heels and put on the back foot.

“The reaction, after the start we had, was excellent. It showed a lot of passion and we made some good decisions, playing good football.

“We didn’t get the win we wanted, but the efforts of the players were outstanding in the second-half. The commitment to the cause was magnificent.”
