Bobby Zamora is likely to be offered a direct route back into Albion’s first team squad after missing his comeback last night.
But the Seagulls are still treading carefully with the fitness of their returning hero.
Zamora pulled out of the under-21s’ fixture against Swansea at the Amex because of a tight groin.
But boss Chris Hughton highlighted the work he has put in during training in his quest for match fitness.
And he said he could envisage the former QPR star being “fast-tracked” into the Championship.
Hughton described Zamora’s absence last night as “disappointing but part precaution”.
But he believes the striker is ready for action.
Hughton added: “We knew he was behind everybody (in terms of fitness) and we have got to take it in the appropriate way.
“He has been doing some good work and he will be one I think we will end up fast-tracking.
“If you look at the bulk of the players and what they did in pre-season, they would be into games now.
“Maybe not at the levels they are now but they would be into games.
“We will assess him over the next two or three days but I can see us at some stage looking to fast track him and get him involved.”
