Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s were beaten by Swansea City, in their second match of the season, at the Amex tonight.
*
Andrew Crofts stepped up his recovery from a long-term knee injury by featuring for the full 90 minutes alongside Charlie Harris in central midfield.
*
But Simon Rusk’s side ended the match with ten men after Adam Chicksen was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 52nd minute.
*
After a cagey opening, the first chance of the game fell to Swansea’s Raheem Hanley, who weaved his way into the Albion box only to see his shot saved by keeper Josh Smith.
*
The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Ollie McBurnie powered a header past Smith after he rose high in the box to latch on to Hanley’s in-swinging cross.
*
There was little in the way of further goalscoring chances until Joe Ward showed some neat footwork to break into the Swansea area, but his strike was comfortably dealt with by Josh Vickers.
*
Swansea wasted a golden opportunity to double their advantage just past the half-hour mark as a cross from Ryan Hedges found its way to Daniel James, but the midfielder blazed his effort over the target.
