Albion face a tricky trip to Walsall in the second round of the Capital One Cup later this month.
It is the second tie in succession against League One opposition for the Seagulls after Tuesday's 1-0 win at Southend United.
Walsall booked their place in the second round with an extraordinary 4-3 victory at Nottingham Forest.
Albion were improbably seeded for the second round draw, based on last season's finishing position, as a consequence of Leeds becoming the latest Championship victims of an upset.
They lost 4-2 on penalties in a Yorkshire derby at Doncaster Rovers tonight following a 1-1 draw after-extra-time.
Lewis Cook put Leeds ahead but was then sent-off in the first half.
Former Albion loan striker Chris Wood blazed one of the spot-kicks over the bar for the ten men.
That meant the Seagulls sneaked into the seeded section, denying them the possibility of facing one of the 12 Premier League clubs not involved in European competition.
Albion's next tie takes place in the week commencing Monday August 24, in-between a home game against Blackburn Rovers and a visit to Ipswich, which is followed by a fortnight's break for the first international interruption.
