From those at the game

Thanks.
Was at the game as live only 6 miles from Roots Hall. 672 in the away end and good vocal support considering a disappointing performance.
M - keeper who has great shot stopping skills but looked rather dodgy with crosses 6
Rosenior- looks to be a very good prospect, lots of desire and effort 7
Rae- looked as if they had targeted him as lot of high balls went his way and beaten in the air but ground work improved as game went on 6
Greer - very composed impressed 7
Bong- big like, possibly our best 8
Holla - available for simple passes, did nothing great though 6
Foster - as above, good booking could heave been a bit less blatant 6
Ince- as above, all adequate but no shots on goal or killer passes 6
Calderon - disappointing, I know we all love him but is it time to use him rarely as a sub. 5
O Grady - worked hard no product though 5
Lua Lua- pushing for top man, only player on the pitch with any flair 7

Subs- tempo changed with 2 attacking players on as subs, at least we tried to win the game. Liked Baldock as showed some pace and aggression. Tomer did ok and put himself about.

Highlight - great left side and usual top support.
Negative- a lucky win as we did not control the game and they had several good chances. Their big lump Deegan, seemed to boss midfield before being withdrawn

GK - Not entirely convincing but made some crucuial saves, looks a real prospect if he can improve command of his area and under pressure 7
Rosenior- Class act, you can tell he's played at a much higher level than this. 8
Rae- Some crucial tackles, went to ground a bit to easily and positionally wobbly but lots to build on 7
Greer - Marshalled the defence impressively, always taking and a great leader, a rock at the heart of our defence 8
Bong- Comefortable in possession, got forward when possible, top quality. 8
Holla - Brilliant through ball for the goal, technically excellent but tended to go missing for periods 7
Caskey - Tried to link play between midfield and up top, not given enough quality balls to use his range of passing and dribbling 7
Ince- Not at his best but still a commanding presence at the heart of our midfield 7
Calderon - Looked short of match fitness for me, but plenty of effort 7
Tumble Dryer - A gutsy performance against a tough defence, held up play when possible but no quality service from our midfield 7
Lua Lua- Started the season on fire, looks full of condifedence and always positive 9

Subs- Tomer and Baldock gave their defence more to think about, we looked better with two up top.

Travelling audience 8 A good atmosphere, Southend were well up for it but we got right behind the boys and the away end went bonkers when we scored at the end.

That's pretty high ratings for players considering other reports we was 2nd best team apart from score.

Maenpaa 7 - some dodgy moments redeemed with a couple of good saves
Rosenior 7.5 - looks like a more consistent option than Bruno at right-back, can see him playing away games
Greer 7
Rea 6 - congrats on the debut & clean sheet, looks a little early to be 3rd choice CB
Bong 7 - got it going on
Holla 6.5 - set up the goal, some pretty passing
Ince 7.5 - Good direct passing and possession play, some key interceptions and clearances in our box.
LuaLua 7.5 - MOM. Winning goal, biggest attacking threat throughout. Worked hard in defence too.
Calderon 6 - looked like a dog that had been swimming in the sea.
JFC 5 - got a bit of a kicking, struggled to impose from forward position
COG 5.5 - some good moments. not many.

Hemed 6.5
Baldock 6

Southend probably a bit hard done by. Performance similar to last year's dross, we perked up with Hemed and Baldock on the pitch.

Yes but the score is what counts, ultimately the players did their job to enable us to emerge unscathed from a potential banana skin against a well drilled and hugely motivated lower league side.

Maenpaa 5 - two good saves but looked dodgy, cant kick either
Rosenior 7 - fairly solid and having calderon infront of him didnt help his attacking skills
Greer 8 - very very solid, one mis placed pass in second half
Rea 5 - out of position a lot, shakey, didnt seem to want the ball but can grow into a good player
Bong 6.5 - dodgy second half
Calde 4.5 - didnt know he was on the pitch
Forster Caskey 5 - gets 5 for effort, not good enough. showed one moment of brilliance, better suited to team like arsenal!
Holla 6 - did nothing really except the pass of the game, so 6 alone for this
Ince 6 - better second half, needs to improve a lot to get in first 11
Lua Lua 8.5 - superb, could have improved crossing though
O Grady 4 - useless

Baldock 7 - helped changed shape of game
Hemed 7 - ditto above

Maenpaa 6 - Looked like a good save towards the end of the second half (a bit hard to see from the away end), and seemed quite vocal, but positioning looked a bit dodgy and flapped at a couple of crosses. Every kick seemed to go to a Southend player too.
Rosenior 7 - Steady in defence, but didnt get much of an opportunity to show any attacking flair.
Greer 7 - Steady, and looked like he was marshaling Rae quite well.
Rea 6 - Looked relatively comfortable.
Bong 8 - Looks like a really qood acquisition - good in defence and threatening going forwards - seems to be developing a good understanding with KLL already
Calde 5 - Fairly anonymous
Forster Caskey 4 - pretty poor from where we were sitting. Seemed to give the ball away a lot and certainly didn't flourish in a more forward position than he played last season.
Holla 5.5 Didnt realise he was playing until he took a corner in the second half, but does get that extra .5 for the pass leading to the goal
Ince 6 - OK
Lua Lua 8.5 (MOM) - Pretty much our only attacking threat, looked good in conjunction with Bong, well taken goal, but also helped out with some defensive work at times too.
O Grady 4 - Offered no threat, and wasnt able to really get involved in the game.

Baldock 7 - Showed some real urgency in his play and things livened up considerably once he and Hemed came on.
Hemed 6 - Not as much energy in his play as Baldock, and perhaps could have shot late on in the second half but chose to cushion a header back to Calde (which didnt work), but good play to win the ball to set up the goal.
