I'm sure there is a logical reason but why both channels showing the game?
I'm guessing it's that they overstretched in the creation of SS5 and don't actually have anything else to show...I'm sure there is a logical reason but why both channels showing the game?

If memory serves, it was launched around the time that BT started to emerge as a 'major player', with Sky naming it as the 'home of European football'. Probably a bit rich considering they only have La Liga and the Eredivisie...oh and MLS. Which isn't in Europe. This is correct, a lot of times last season they'd show whatever match is on ss1 or ss2 on ss5 if nothing else was on

and probably not la liga for much longer....
this explains it. look at the strapline on this promotional vid with a couple of nice Albion glimpses. Looks like all change. Sky Sports 5 is now "the home of the Championship" whatever that means...

I think what it mainly means is that BT customers won't be able to watch the Championship when the match is only on SS5 as that's not available on the BT platform. It's another way of sky trying to get extra revenue by forcing those customers to buy a day or monthly pass for sky go, or whatever it's called.
The La Liga contract was announced yesterday. Sky in the end kept La Liga for another 3 years, despite BT hoping to snatch it away.
