How many goals do we need this season?

Well certainly an improvement on the pathetic 44 of last season.
The top half of 14-15 looked like this......
Bournemth........98
Watford............91
Norwich............88
Boro.................68
Brentfrd............78
Ipswich.............72
Wolves.............70
Derby...............85
Blackburn.........66
Brum................54
Cardiff..............57
Charlton............54
Observations.....
1) Automatic promotion probably needs 85 goals.
2) Play-offs probably need 70 goals.
3) Top ten probably needs 65 goals,
4) Top half probably needs 55-60 goals.
Where are our goals coming from?
a) Defence. Providing we still have him, Dunk should be good for 4-5. Throw in the odd 1's and 2's from others and we will end up with about 12.
b) Midfield. No evidence of a regular scorer here. No set-piece expert curling in 6-8 from deadball situations. The best we can hope for is 3-4's from Stephens, Kayal and 1-2's from JFC, Ince, Crofts etc. We will do well to get 15 in total from here.
c) Wide. If no new wide-man comes in....KLL and March will get about 4 in total. A new man might add another 4-5. So the goals spread is 4-9.
d) Strikers. Now here is the difficult bit. Hemed is the unknown but I like the look of him and think he can get 12+. Baldock given a longer run 8-10. COG 4-5. Colunga 5. BZ 2. Others 2. Total approx 30- 35.
Realistic figure.....about 65. Result 10th - 8th position.
Anyone comes out the woodwork and surprises us ( e.g Hemed with 18-20 ) and we could be fringe play-offs. Below par with these figures and we will be looking 14th-10th position.

On the Border
23 will be enough to get 92 points (23 one nil wins and 23 no score draws).

Who needs entertainment rather than promotion

BZ will score 40, as will Hemed.
Ince will be given free reign in a roving role and get 20
Baldock/CoG 30 between them
Maenpaa takes penalties and will get all 15 that we are awarded.

Promoted by February.

Note to self, lay off the Amphetamine Sulphate

It would be nice to be able to sneak another one on the pitch that the opposition don't notice.

Sadly I can still see us hitting the post.

Chris O'Grady to score 4 or 5 but Bobby Zamora to score 2. Err Ok then.

As a Collective our Forwards should be aiming for 40 goals plus I reckon we might have around 30 between TH, SB and BZ. That will give us a decent enough basis.

It will then depend on how many the rest of the team can come up with, we have been missing goals from the wing over the last few seasons, so that would be helpful if addressed.

It will then be down to how few we conceed to where we end up in the league.

There's a neat formula that says you want your forwards to get 40, 20 from midfield, and defence 10. That'll get us near the play-offs, probably within it if Dunk stays.

Question marks over Baldock and Hemed. We will know soon enough if they are the answer. Same for Harper.

BZ will prob chip in with 5/6 but may help the above.

We need a midfielder on double figures this year. Stephens ?

Winger essential and one that can chip in with 7 or 8

More questions than answers

We have struggled to score goals ever since we got promoted in 2011. I need to get a life but have worked out that over the past 4 years we have managed 220 goals in 184 games so average 1.19 goals a game. Compare that to Bournemouth who scored 165 goals in 92 Championship games at an average of 1.8 goals a game. Even Peterborough managed 133 goals in their two seasons at this level so 1.4 goals per game.

Interesting stats.
I suppose it emphasises the fact that we have not had a 20+ a season striker since Withdean.

We came fourth with 69 goals and sixth with 55 the season after, not sure you can pick any generalisations from this. Funnily enough, it depends also on goals conceded...

A pretty good list of guesses, this. Some of these could be bang on.

Interesting that you didn't have March (pre-injury) down for any.
