Every day is a slow news day at the Argus. They really have turned into an absolute mockery of a newspaper. All they seem to do now is spend their time trawling Twitter on the off chance there's something mediocre that they can turn into a half arsed story: it's either that or putting in ridiculous FOI requests to local government bodies in the hope they can dig up a "scandal" along the lines of the local NHS management team spending £31 on custard creams for meetings in 2013.

Apart from a hanging basket which was knocked off its hook, there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Phew thank goodness for that...I was expecting a massacre!

That IS local newspapers though isn't it?

Last year my parents carbon monoxide alarm went off, but it was just a fault with the alarm, which was ancient. Nothing to see here, just an elderly couple who were hiding in their garage until the Fire Brigade turned up to confirm that there was no carbon monoxide leaking, and they returned to the bungalow, and ordered a new alarm.

Outcome : FRONT PAGE of the Littlehampton Gazette, with a picture of them huddled around the offending alarm.

Just because Brighton is a city, we shouldn't expect the range of stories that are available to the Evening Standard. There are going to be a lot of "slow news days".

I once got called to deal with a report of a bloke walking up the hard shoulder of the M23. Went along, spotted him, took him to the nearest train station, & carried on with the next job.

This was turned by the Argus into the headline full page story about the M-WAY DRAMA on their website, referencing HORRIFIED motorists calling 999, accompanied by a lengthy analysis of the law relating to pedestrians on motorways.

Brighton / Hove actually
"A HOMELESS man tried to guide a huge 10-wheeler "

If they could find out he was homeless, surely they could have found out his name and used that instead ??? And why in capital letters, unless Ernest wrote the STORY.

Agree wholeheartedly, Edna darling. The "Pfnargus" has turned into a cheap daily version of "Hello" with its endless photo-shoots of awards ceremonies etc.
If it was a weekly then you could have rational comment about the Albion, based on the match reports but as they have to file copy every day bar Sunday presumably Hughton and the other Albion staff are constantly having to deal with reporters looking for copy, and inventing stuff if they can't find it.

In my view that might have been part of the reason Gus left in such unfortunate circumstances.

I just think it's sad we don't have a local newspaper anymore.

Not sure whether it's the "local" or the "newspaper" I agree with more.

The "Argus" has to carry national stories if they are big enough, which a local paper published weekly wouldn't as they'd be out-of-date.

What rankles more is that "News" is being replaced by "Hello" type photoshoots of Brighton "celebs". Maybe the new editor will change that but you need staff to research stories. That's what is being cut to the bone over the newspaper industry. "Cut-and-paste" from other sources then becomes more tempting to fill copy.

Oh, and endless pro-gay propaganda..

It used to be anti-gay back in the day. Very lukewarm on acts of violence against homos.

Bit like The Sun and its famous Queer Bashers Guide To Brighton.

Good to see times have moved on.
