Thought he was outstanding tonight. Looked assured, on his toes, dominated the box and his kicking and distribution also excellent. Going to be interesting to see who starts next Friday.

No doubt Stockdale will start but he will have to be more consistent than last season to keep his place now we have a genuine challenger for his position.

Totally agree! He was absolutely bloody excellent he done about 4-5 worldy saves, trust me the saves were pure quality. He on his own saved Brighton from a very humiliation of been beaten by Gillingham (who were all over us the first half). I reckon he should be own number one keeper from now on and make Stockdale realise that he has to play second fiddle to Niki.

For fuel for the haters then.

Had it been Stockdale in goal the good saves and distribution would have been ignored and the mis-reading for a cross and subsequent flap at the ball, early in the game, which could have resulted in a goal, would have been all that was posted about.

It is one good game though.

Remember a few years ago, people saying that Smith should play rather than Kuipers after a reasonable pre-season. Smith comes on at Huddersfield and lets in, I think 6 of their 7 goals. This is then followed by countless bad performances.

Those saying Niki should start at number 1 are not just basing their opinion on one game. We had all last season to see the mistakes Stockdale made.

I agree on the Stockdale mistakes.

The stupid thing with him is when is busy, he tends not to make too many mistakes, it is when nothing is going on, he gets involved in things he should not and it goes wrong.

Kind of ironic that the current goalkeeping coach used to suffer the same issues.

Cracking bit of business by the club.

Stockdale #1 - Ideally plays like a number one, then is sold in the Summer.
Maenpaa #2 - Has a few games and (hopefully) is plenty good enough if properly required.
Walton #3 - A full season @ bury

This time next year:-

Maenpaa & Walton battle for #1 - Development kid #3 - Plus £1+m in the bank, and a decent wage off the payroll.

People get to post "we're not a selling club, we'll never get promoted selling all our best players"

Everyone's a winner, happy days.

End of discussion, drops the mike, exits stage left.

I think Ankegren will still be number 3 next season. Sell Stockdale, and have Walton number 1.

May not work out exactly like that but in essence that may well be the club's thinking

Really, that happened?! These people need to be identified and brought to justice.
