Was that 'surfer shark attack' a PR stunt?

Maybe not the 'attack', or as later theorised by a marine expert, a curious shark, entangled in the board tow rope, ..

but the blatantly positioned energy drink imagery-can and banners, at a press conference..

Press conference patently bought in some plugs. But no more so than the major plug for Intel on the back of Stephen Hawkings PC type thing at the press conference announcing SETI 2.0 the same day.

Read American Weather a novel by Charles McLeod. Great book about a pay per view death row execution where the guy goes to the gurney for his lethal injection tattooed head to buttock to foot in McDonalds, Coca Cola, Apple, Google logos etc. having sold every inch of his skin for advertising and wearing nothing but a Dolce & Gabanna G string (more product placement).

The extensive tattooing took weeks. On death row he lived like a king in terms of food etc. during that time. He was just a pawn really, some other guy on the outside came up with the plan and creamed off millions in profits.

Talk about press conference advertising. I hate the TV monitor screen the have at Real Madrid & Barca games. All you see is this screen, bottles either side and a pair of eyes over the top.
