Global freezing: A ‘mini ice age’ is on the way by 2030, scientists say

European scientists warn that by 2030, a decade of winters with deep freezing temperatures could bring about a “mini ice age” the likes of which hasn’t been seen in 370 years.

Researchers at Northumbria University, led by Professor Valentina Zharkova, used mathematical models to predict solar activity will drop by 60% and trigger plunging temps around the world. The last time this happened was between 1645 and 1715....

So, it looks like all this "Global Warming" stuff was just nonsense, and we better start burning copious amounts of CO2 to trap whatever little solar radiation we get!

So you believe this one scientist who has said there's going to be a mini-ice age over the thousands of other scientists who warn about man-made climate change?

If this crackpot is right we might just use some resources in a less efficient way to get cleaner air.

More than likely he is wrong, the evidence gets stronger and stronger every year

Climate change is still a "thing" and we need to accept that.

However, even if the sun spot predictions are correct a Maunder Minimum won't necessarily result in a global ice age. We might get to do some skating and sledging though

Maybe the scientist is confusing data he received from his revolutionary trip to the planet Mongo. The loss of natural warmth that the loving tsar Ming emitted before being evilly overturned by brainless beefcake Flash could easily cause such a drop in temperatures there.

rather than the knee-jerk reactions assuming this is anti-climate change, maybe you could read the article. it draws attention to the fact that the yellow-orange ball in the sky has more say on our climate than anything we do. find a scientist who disagrees.

Maybe if you read the thread you would see it was the OP who brought up climate change (or 'global warming' as they call it), which is what I was responding to, you patronising scamp.

I did read the article, as it happens. I noted it was written on a website called marketwatch.com by a markets reporter (not a science journalist) and appeared to be a report on an article in The Independent, rather than anything like actual research, so unlikely to be a totally unbiased point of view. I took just a couple of minutes to see if there was more on this story anywhere and found quite a lot people disagreed with the findings of this research. But 'mini ice age' makes a good headline, so this is what has found its way into the newspapers.

Nobody really knows what effect man has on climate change because the timeline of data is too short at this point. However, all reputable scientists agree we are having a detrimental and likely catastrophic effect on our climate. Various bodies, companies and governments will always find a scientist willing to counter this argument and for the sake of fairness most media outlets will give them air time too. They are not there to debunk it all together but to introduce doubt. If there is doubt the government can lean on that side and won't have to do anything about it. It's standard practice with anything that will cost the government/corporations money they don't wish to spend.
