Triple jump world record

Strange that both men's and women's triple jump record were recorded at Gothenburg 1995.
Both increased the previous record by a significant amount (about 30 cm for Jonathan Edwards, 40 cm for Inessa Kravets) and have stood for the last 20 years.
I wonder if they measured them properly? Not to try and take away any kudos from the athletes but I can't imagine anything special about that night (not high altitude) that would account for it?

I am sure that there is a young lad who might threaten Edwards' record this year. I forget his name but he is about 20 and seems destined to beat it.

I might have made this up but I am 95% sure it is true.

There is a good Cuban at the moment but his best is still about 20 cm short of Edward's best.

Pretty sure the previous world record was one of the longest standing before Jonathan Edwards broke it too. I guess it's something to do with that specific event.

It's probably bescause Triple Jump is not a financially appealing sport (or appealing in any other way, really) so athletes do not, if they can help it, end up specialising in it.

Close, but no cigar.

A Cuban Missile Crisis, of sorts.

Johnathan Edwards had a wind assisted 18.40 odd jump before he had that legal jump in Gothenburg to get the record, so potential was always there.

Pedro Pablo Pichardo, 18.08m, 21cm short.
Just turned 22 last week so has plenty of time when you consider Edwards was 29 when he broke the record.
