It’s important that you’re penetrating. The ideal way to do this is to get the ball wide, either to deliver a cross or to keep their full-backs pinned back. If you’re struggling to break them down, shift to four upfront by giving one of your central midfielders license to join the attack.

Translated: we need a speed merchant, a fast winger/wide player that will stop the opposing full back from getting forward!

But who? (We have never replaced Will Buckley).

Ball needs to be played wide and the winger needs to be able to trap the ball instantly. Or the ball needs to be played into space ahead of the winger (Lualua does not do this.)

Counter to the speed merchant: http://performance.fourfourtwo.com/tactics/hughton-stopping-a-jet-heeled-striker

Sunderland are not all that pleased with Buckley (fans forum) but I would like to get him back. His increased wages will prevent this though.

Na, spends half the season out injured.

30/46 games. But some as substitute, so just over 50%. Does not represent value for money on PL wages (I expect it is about £18K a year). Worth it if we make the top 6 on gate receipts for the play-offs. Something to think about next January if we are in with a shout?

I don't think it is worth getting an ordinary winger though. Got to have real pace and Buckley has got that. And I would like a speed merchant from the start especially against Forest and Fulham. They have got the threat in Antonio and McCormack and I would not fancy our chances unless we have got a genuine threat up front.

I think we are still looking for a second striker and speed merchant to give the fans some optimism. I don't want us signing any old journeyman (names often bandied about) though.

He is right though, we do need some pace going forward.

The winger and extra striker we need I am hoping are both of the speedy variety.

Check out Greer's role in this: http://performance.fourfourtwo.com/tactics/hughton-stopping-a-jet-heeled-striker

Rosenoir may slip into this role against fast opponents. I think Greer is good enough for most instances until we face Adomah and the faster players.

A case for Rohan Ince to have some practice in this role like he dealt with Sanchez against Arsenal?

perhaps kaz could/should work on his delivery...he is certainly quick enough just lacks that final touch...!

Not given up on Kaz yet. If he can play further forward and run into space, I certainly would not want him on the opposite side!

Can we afford the wages for quality new players?

Some of our current players are rather too specialist in their styles. Baldock wanting to be an out and out striker and Kaz always wanting the ball to his feet.

Needs some intensive work done on his fitness levels first shirley? You'd sort of hope he wouldn't be forever just an impact sub, but the longer time goes on, the more it looks that way. He should be ripping into defences from the word go. Talented player who seems to be currently squandering his talents. And can't keep blaming his injuries forever.

Buckley would certainly be worth a punt if he is on £18k a year.

First was a wild guess. Should have been £18 a week guess up from £9.6K at the Albion.

I think it is more like £15.3 K per week + bonuses at Sunderland. I think we should have offered him higher wages and tried to keep him. i.e. £12K.

If Sunderland got relegated they would have implemented a 40% reduction relegation clause?

With the New FFP rule and a 24 man squad, can we afford £12K a week?

Just because the FFP allowable loss this season is £13m doesn't necessarily mean that TB is prepared to lose £13m. I'm not saying that he isn't, but he hasn't said that he is either.
