Anyone else feeling slightly optimistic about next season following the two signings this week?
Hopefully the image attached- which shows I feel we need a CB, Lb and a winger to genuinely push for play. Probably deluded.

Shaping up nicely. However, Stephens will be a regular i feel. I'm also confident we will fill the positions you have highlighted.

Personally I would drop KLL for Stephens to add a bit more grit to the midfield and use KLL as impact sub. Never really been a success when starting a game.

All natural right footers so far. Except for Solly March who I expect to get some playing time.

I find it difficult to see how the team will gel.

Don't think Dunk will be with us, and KLL shouldn't be starting. We need two new wingers really, or to adapt to a formation like this perhaps:

------------------------------Stockdale------------------------------
-------------------New CB-------------New CB-------------------
----Rosenior-------------------------------------------New LB----
---------------------------------Ince----------------------------------
---------------Kayal----------------------Stephens----------------
-----------------------------New CAM------------------------------
-----------------Hemed----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------Baldock/New ST----------------

Like the look of that side, full backs will be particularly important in this system, from what ive seen and heard about Rosenior, he seems to be a good fit at RB. desperately need a new LB, which im sure we will see in the coming weeks.

With a few more additions we are in for solid season i reckon.

Prediction: Top ten.

Great team. However, I'd have a back 3 with Rosenoir and bring Stephens into the centre.

Hughton was very specific in his interview that Hemed is a number nine - so I don't think he'll be playing behind another striker.

Feeling slightly less optimistic now if KLL is going to be in the starting line-up.

So far everyone's starting 11 has us playing very narrow. Playing a diamond with centre mid on one side and a winger on the other leaves us very lopsided and far too narrow if you have a midfield of say Ince, Kayal AND Stephens. If you're going to play a variation of 4-4-2 I'd rather a bog standard 4-4-2 without a diamond or a 4-4-1-1.

My starting 11 would be;

--------------- Stockdale ---------------
-------- Rea -------------- Dunk -------
Rosenior ------------------------ New LB
-------------- Ince -- Kayal ------------
March --------- Baldock --------KLL/ New LW
------------------- Hemed ----------------

I am positively SALIVATING at the prospect of a full season of the Ince, Kayal and Stephens combination.

CH may know. I don't. It is just that we seem to have specialist players, all them quite good but with weaknesses and limitations. e.g. Ince choice of passes, KLL running off the ball, etc. etc.

4-2-3-1 requires two players that are not hopelessly weak on their left foot. 4-3-3 requires a central midfielder that is a cut above average (no limitations): Dale Stephens seems most likely? . 4-4-2 is rather narrow for home games. I find it difficult to find an obvious settled team or formation with the current squad.

A lot could be done if the players are more adaptable. Baldock is not got enough to be only a striker. KLL is not good enough of he does not run into spaces forward (not by dropping deeper).

Maybe pre season preparation could sort it all out?

With a surfeit of right-sided players the team 's play drifts to the right. This OK if we have a genuine left back for overlaps in a 4-3-3 where space is created.

I am reasonably optimistic. Passing and possession is still very good at times (even when pressed). Bruno still has great composure on the ball and can block most left wingers. Kayal has a turn of acceleration (more than expected). Corners are quite good but free kicks are not.

If we have a specialist goalkeeping coach, I tend to think we could use a specialist attacking coach. Forwards (or midfielders) running to the near post is under achievement and goalscoring from a second player running into an attacking position is almost non-existent. Ince presence (and potentially running) in midfield is better than Stephens but his distribution is predictable (and cut out). Anxious not to give the ball away?

Lots of shots get blocked. Second striker with a bit of guile would help. Left back and second striker needed. Right winger with frightening pace would help.

I can't see many players in the other teams that I would be excited to sign. I would like us to sign Stephen Ward, but the left sided player I really like is Jérémy Hélan (Wednesday). But I think Wednesday are my outsiders to do well this coming season.

Prospect for next season: Solly March.

I would like to think the play of our current young (not as young as other teams) players could be improved by awareness and practice. (I think the same applies to other teams.)

If we are going 4-4-2 then I think we will play someone like Stephens or JFC out wide, rather than two out and out wingers.

My current first choice

--------------- Stockdale ---------------
----------- Greer------- Dunk -----------
Bruno-------------------------- Rosenior
---------------Ince----Kayal --------------
March ---------------------Stephens----
------------- Baldock ---------------------
------------------- Hemed ----------------

This is closest to my team. Not good enough for the top 6 though. Stephens in the centre for 4-3-3 though. I've not seen anything from Baldock though.

Last season all we heard on this board was about our tiny strike force.....do people realise how tall our players really are ......Dunk 6ft 4......Greer 6ft 3.....Old lady 6ft 3 .....Stephens ......6ft 1....Baldock.....oh 5 ft 2. Anyway what I am trying to say is we need wingers to swing the ball in to these lanky players (Hemed is 6ft) so who is the best crosser of the ball? Solly March? Lua Lua?
