Unusually I have some sympathy for them this time. The idea that all of a sudden their shifts will include nights and the reward they get for doing them is a 0.75% pay increase and a £500 bonus is bizarre.

How about computers do the night-time runs then?

But then they will strike against that as well...

agree. its pretty paltry amount of increase for night shift. they should have a fairly substantial shift allowance, applied when doing that shift (i.e. not a blanket payrise)

Boris comes up with all these brilliant ideas and in this instance London Underground have to take all the flak. Did they not anticipate resistance to bringing in new duties involving weekends and through night working without any payment of proper shift allowances ?

And who is going to open the stations and man them ? Get the robots off the Channel 4 show too ?

This could be an opportunity to get the homeless off the streets of London. Big Issue Seller/Revenue Protection Executive.

Oh that's right a bit of Tory bashing it must be all Boris's fault.... Christ on a bike....

Where on earth do you get they have not been offered shift allowances or no payment for working nights....

I think you find they do and will, they just want more.

I know a good friend of mine who works on the tubes maintenance side and a trade union leader for his branch, he told me they would call a strike, but he voted against and urged his members too aswell. More than half the population would snatch there hands off for a job on the tubes, last bastion of the ultra left wing socialists unions....

Holding the capital to ransom, the only power they have and boy do they use it.

They should live outside and travel in like nearly everyone else. It's not like they'll have to pay for their transport either. #NeverHadItSoGood

What a clever idea , so how do they get to the depots for the first trains if they live nowhere near London and it is specified in their contracts that they must live within a certain distance of a depot ? #cluelessagainortrolling

Surely you are talking about the situation now, not what it would be.

With through-the-night trains there will be no "first trains". Currently there are "first trains" but they seem to be managing to get to work just fine, aren't they?

Didn't you read my post properly ? I wrote proper shift allowances. All the news reports are saying the same thing - the drivers will have to work unlimited weekends and nights on new rosters without any recompense. ASLEF are a moderate union compared to RMT.
