Anyone else suspicious about the fact that charges against Coulson have been dismissed by the Judge rather than allowing a jury to decide. Similar thing happened with some of the charges against Brooks. Seems that in the Coulson case, he is alleged to have lied about his knowledge of phone hacking whilst at the News of the World whilst giving evidence in the Sheridan case however the Judge has deemed there is no case, not because he wasn't lying but because what he said wasn't relevant to the Sheridan trial. So, was he lying under oath but that doesn't matter because it wasn't relevant. If he was, how do you trust anything else he has said.

Yes. Far be it for us to attempt to interpret Scottish law more effectively than m'lord, but this seems to be the case. I always thought that perjury was lying under oath, but in Scotland it appears to be -- or according to m'lord, at least -- only those lies under oath that have a direct bearing on that trial.
