I've had signatures turned off when I view NSC for just about ever.
It's been brought to my attention a few times that some people take advantage of NSC's liberal attitude to signatures by, being kind, 'advertising'. I've just had a quick look by extracting a list of all signatures across NSC and there is some right spammy stuff in there.
Guests who visit NSC do not have the ability to turn off signatures when they view NSC and, as we have thousands of those every day, I don't think it creates a particularly good impression of the site.
With over 20,000 users on NSC, it would take far more time than I have to resolve these on a case by case basis. So, at the end of May, I will be resetting ALL signatures that contain one or more links. At the same time, the ability to embed links in signatures will be turned off.
After that, I'm not entirely sure, but it may become a premium option should anyone really want it. I'll give it some thought. By all means get in touch if you have any particular thoughts about this.
