Recovery from unreadable USB

Can anyone advise me on the best software out there for trying to recover files from a USB that has suddenly become unreadable?

There seems to be several options to download and try, but before I cough up $50 or more (which seems to be the going rate), any recommendations would be valued.

Thanks Prince Monolulu - that looks really helpful, but unfortunately I'm on a Mac not a pc.

Ooops, I think the EaseUS software is for Macs too though

I had an external hard drive fail. Had to send it away to a specialist data recovery firm. Very, very expensive lesson in making sure everything is properly backed up, but they did manage to recover everything.

About £600. They will assess, give you a quote range, then keep you updated with 'how difficult it's proving to be' etc. Then they'll confirm they've done it and send you a file showing what they have recovered. Cost will be right at the top of their quote range (£900 in my case). I said it was too much so wouldn't bother, then they were prepared to negotiate.

All along I suspect it was quite a simple job, but was stuffed really.

Lots of money. But to lose a hard drive would be devastating so worth it i suspect
