Was he Ed's achilles heel or would the result have been worse without his backing?

PS - Congratulations Bozza.

Milliband stated a couple of days ago that the previous Labour Government were blameless in the economic disaster. The general public are not stupid and saw this as a denial of responsibility. They were and are totally unelectable. A firm financial basis must be the cornerstone of our economy to enable any sort of agenda for sensible spending. Labour didn't, haven't ever and couldn't deliver this. The previousTory government, irrespective of what the 'Left' say, have steadied the ship.
I know who I would rather trust with the economy and I think the British Public has spoken and generally agree.

Of more democratic relevance and importance is the fact that UKIP have many more votes than the Scottish National Socialist Party yet have a fraction of the number of their seats. Good enough to shut up the Wicked Witch of the North IMHO.

Amazing that Brand has admitted now that he had decided to vote for Labour BEFORE he invited Miliband in for an interview and only because they were the lesser of two evils! http://www.russellbrand.com/can-we-change-anything

Why therefore did he feel it necessary to put people through his politics week farce, a scripted interview with Ed Milliband which he obviously only agreed to do as he knew in advance he would get an easy ride, and then his laughable assertions that a vote for labour would be the start of a revolution!

Brand has shown himself to be a man of contradictions: he wants to pass the power back down to the people but judging by his cynical attempts to co-ercce obviously doesn't trust his own subscribers enough to make up their own minds! And to think that he has the nerve to criticise the right wing press for having a hidden agenda!

Fortunately it looks like people haven't listened to him and hopefully Brand will now finally get over himself!

Millibars downfall was to leave it too late to distance himself from the SNP. IMHO OF COURSE

You'd probably have to be a Tory to come to that conclusion and face it if you are you'd vote Tory regardless, so I don't think it's a massive factor.

Brand used to be funny for the record but is a rich twit. I think Ed was right to speak to him but I'm surprised anyone could be naive enough to think it had any effect on the result.

Like I was saying on another thread, Russell Brand is insignificant. All the influence is with Murdoch - The Sun in England said vote Tory, The Sun in Scotland said vote SNP.

Russell Brand on his YouTube channel may have won a few student votes for Labour on the 11th hour, but it really pales in significance compared to Murdoch's epic propaganda campaign.

You're not very bitter then.

All the while Brand posed as an edgy, slightly green anarchist heavily critical of the Westminster elite he had street cred. Now that he's gone mainstream but backed the wrong horse he's messed it up.

The fact that he's less than a month away from his 40th birthday will also lose him kudos with younger people.

He'll continue to be around but his star is irrevocably on the wane. To be honest the bloke has shocking judgement, I mean who in their right mind would kick Katy Perry into touch?

Brighton / Hove actually
Ooh, he twists and turns like a twisty turny thing.

My view on this áffair is that if there was anyone in the country with a modicum of intelligence that was considering voting Labour instead of Conservative, that Millibands association with this oaf would have put them off voting for Ed completely.

When Blair won he was endorsed by Richard Branson.

I think Labour have totally failed to address the narrative that they were to blame for the financial mess left behind. The facts don't support this, but it this was the narrative that the Tories and Lib Dems pushed home from day one and it is what was heard. Milliband is totally at fault for not addressing this 5 years ago.

On electoral reform, it will not happen. It does not feel right that a million people can vote green and get one mp, nor is it right that 3.8 million people vote UKIP and get one mp (and I despise them). However, does the first past the post system deliver more stable government even if it doesn't deliver fair representation?
