Hartlepool fans should not 'black up' as Bob Marley - Kick It Out

Hartlepool fans set to dress up as Bob Marley for next weekend's match at Carlisle should avoid "blacking up" as it is "likely to cause offence", says anti-discrimination body Kick It Out.

Supporters of the League Two club wear fancy dress to their final away game of the season, donning Smurfs outfits for the trip to Charlton in 2011-12.

Kick it Out has advised Carlisle to refuse entry to those who "black up".

"Historically it's been a way of acting out racist stereotypes," it said.

Surely this is just a way of celebrating the life of a music legend while taking their minds off their team slipping out of the league. Hartlepool and Carlisle are hardly hotbeds of racial tensions are they.

A sublime own goal by Kick it Out

Completely daft. Likely to cause offence to whom?

They didn't have a problem with the Smurf effort and I'd imagine the Siberians or Antracticans weren't upset by it.

The PC brigade, to which we have a battalion patrolling this board and will no doubt be along fairly soon.

I was blacked up as Samuel L Jackson for a cameo role in a school play. Who knew Lancing College was so edgy?

Do the ugly sisters upset transgender people?

We're trying to kick out racism. This is not racism. Absurd.

It's hardly the black and white minstrels.

PC bollocks again - a reference to Hangus the monkey which is Hartlepool folklore. Those who oppose it should be sent to live with the IS , either that or a leper colony infected by aids.

I saw some fella dressed up as Serena Williams and she retweeted it as it was so good. Of course he was 'blacked up' as the idea of fancy dress is to look like whatever you're trying to look like..!
