Brighton & Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer says the players take full responsibility for a below-par performance against Wigan yesterday - and fully accepted fans' criticisms at the final whistle.The skipper felt Albion were in a position to win the game, after a poor first half, and also admitted that the players understand the fans' concerns with the team’s dip in form.
He told seagulls.co.uk,"We started the game brightly and then we were really disappointed after that because we didn't play well enough on the day.
"We're at the bottom of the league fighting for our lives, as are Wigan and we wanted to put in a really good team display, but we did not manage to do that.
"We were fully aware of how big a game it was and we had a few chances at 1-1, but we did not take them and got punished at the other end.
"We have to take full responsibility for the performance, as it was a massive game and a test of character, and we did not pass.
"A lot of people travelled up to support us and they were well within their rights to boo us off at the end."

Greer says the team missed an opportunity for Albion to effectively secure their Championship status and revealed that a few home truths were discussed in the dressing room at full-time."Over recent years we've had it quite good, playing some great football and being up near the top of the league and this year we've been down near the bottom for most of the season.
"It's been a difficult season for everybody connected with the club, but these are the sort of games that you look forward to. If we came up here and won the game then we would've secured our Championship status and moved onto next season.
"As a player you take the good with the bad. It's easy for people to criticise you when they're not on the pitch, but it’s sometimes difficult to look at your fellow players and be honest with each other.
"After the game we had to do that because we're coming away from home and not playing well enough.”
He also took little solace from Millwall dropping two points away at Cardiff City today and is eager to turn the situation around with a positive result against Watford next week.
"I personally don't like looking at other people's results; we wanted to come here and do it on our own. Unfortunately it didn't happen, but it’s a bonus for us that Millwall dropped two points.
"It’s a bad for us and for the supporters; now it's up to us to make sure that we put it right next Saturday."
