An impressive 6ft 2in goakeeper who came on loan to the Goldstone Ground from Celtic in November 1994 following injuries to Nicky Rust and Mark Ormerod. He kept a clean sheet on his home debut against Bournemouth and also performed competently in a 3-0 defeat at Cardiff in the next match. Stewart’s appearances were his first in professional football, as he had yet to make his Celtic debut when Liam Brady signed him in May 1993. He eventually made 75 appearances for the Parkhead side up until to 2001, and an additional eight appearances for Wigan ,before being forced to retire at the age of 26 due to a back injury. He has since been a goalkeeper coach at Airdrie United, Motherwell and Toronto.
Chris Hutchings (Defender)
Chris made 175 appearances for the Seagulls up until 1987, having signed from Chelsea in a £50,000 deal in November 1983. He is full of praise for his boss Chris Cattlin, “Chris was a good manager. He was a Yorkshireman. Black was black and white was white. He was a very good player in his own right. He played at Huddersfield, who I joined after Brighton.” Cattlin had dropped Hutchings for the FA Cup quarter-Final match with Southampton in 1986, a decision the manager subsequently admitted was a mistake. However, the full-back was forgiving and said, “Sometimes as a manager you have a hunch. That game was disappointing. In a quarter-final at home, no matter who you were playing, you’d fancy your chances.” In 2007, Hutchings became Wigan manager, talking them to top spot in the Premier League for a short period in August, but lost his job in November after six successive defeats.

Brian Bromley (Midfielder)
A true leader in midfield who joined the Albion on loan in November 1971. Brian played a magnificent part in Pat Saward’s all-out attacking promotion-winning side of 1971/72. Although he returned to Portsmouth in January 1972, it was not for long and he joined Albion for £14,000, becoming captain for the run-in that season. He hit three goals that season, including a magnificent volley against Tranmere at the Goldstone, one that he is still fondly remembered for. His influence in the side waned in the disastrous 1972/73 second division camapaign and he moved to Reading in September 1973. In 1975, he joined Northern Premier League side Wigan Athletic, making 23 league appearances during his sole season at the club. Brian passed away in 2012.Danny Wilson (Midfielder)
This influential midfield dynamo began his career with Wigan in the Northern Premier League, scoring once in eight appearances in 1976/77 before joining Bury. He arrived at the Goldstone on loan in December 1983, subsequently joining for a £45,000 fee in January 1984, at a time when his career at Nottingham Forest was going nowhere. He became a firm favourite at the Goldstone under Cattlin but the 1986/87 season under Mullery was to be his last at the club: “We’ve struggled a lot with injuries and Alan Mullery has had to introduce a few young players to the first team. Inevitably it takes time for them to adjust. But we’ve been playing well and I feel we haven’t deserved to lose on some occasions. Like every footballer, I want to play in the First Division and hopefully I’ll get back there with Brighton. I certainly see a long-term future on the south coast.” It was not to be but Wilson became a First Division player once more when he joined Luton for £150,000 in July 1987.
Stuart Storer (Forward)
A former apprentice with Mansfield and Birmingham City, Stuart transferred to Everton in March 1987 and played 16 matches in a brief loan spell at Wigan. He subsequently played for Bolton and Exeter. In March 1995, for the first time in three and a half years, Albion signed a player in a deal that involved a transfer fee, but Stuart’s move from Exeter for £15,000 did not get off to the best of starts ,as he suffered an injury on his first day of training. However, his speed and work rate down the right-wing made him a thorn in the side of opposition defences, even during the times in 1996/97 when the fortunes of the side were plummeting. He had a particularly fine match against eventual champions Wigan in an against-the-odds 1-0 success. Storer then gained Albion legend status when he smashed home the only goal against Doncaster Rovers in the last-ever match at the Goldstone.
