Hopefully everyone is alright, not sure how its possible to derail a train like that?

Reportedly an empty train with no passengers on board. Could be caused by anything, points/signalling failure, track defect, object on the line. It will get investigated though, which will mean a lengthy blockage.

Taken from Twitter, not a serious one as it probably happened at low speed, though it is blocking the London-bound line. As West and East Coast lines dont appear to be affected, they will probably be opened as soon as power can be restored. Mainline trains will have disruption for a while though.

Doesn't the steel they use on the tracks normally buckle as soon as the temperature reaches about the equivalent of a warmish Summer's day?

Normally thats around 35 degrees air temperature, metal temperature is always much, much hotter than that. I highly doubt thats the cause though, suspect a points failure. One of the reasons trains get stopped when signalling fails is to potentially stop things like this.

Regardless, something has gone wrong. It will also result in a train being taken out of service for repairs as well

Did it move on its own?

Funnily enough, that might be a cause !!

Looks like there's two blokes trying to pick the train up
