Loan players, any point?

99% of the time it seems that unless you loan players on a season long loan or the player in question is out of contract at the end of the season they couldn't give two shits about their individual performances or the club. I know we're not in the position to pick and choose but I would rather play the development squad than some of these effortless freeloaders.

Your perception is altered by the fact that many of the loan players in recent seasons have been terrible. Bobby Zamora, for example, was excellent in his initial three month loan spell with us, and that towards the end of a dead season. It's like anything, isn't it? There are hits (Zamora, Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood etc) and misses (Robbie Savage, Obika, Best).

Darren Bent certainly seems to be giving a shit at Derby. Up to 10 goals in his loan period there now isn't he ?

True. Perhaps it's just been especially rough due to our new found talent of awful recruitment.

He was loaned out all of last season and most of this season, think it's pretty clear he's not wanted by Villa and isn't his contract up?

Season-long loans are good. Think of our recent success rate: Bridge, Ward, Teixiera. Elsewhere: Bamford, for instance. Short-term loans are a waste of time however, and we need to reduce them to emergency situations, rather than have it as a policy.

Playing loan players in the team?

Bennett - yes; what alternatives do we have at LB?
Halford - yes; hopefully lining up for a contract in the summer.
Tex - if only he wasn't injured!
Carayol - yes; the alternative would be playing LuaLua from the start.
Best - silly question...............

Paynter, Vokes, Razak, Gonzales, Lita, Obika, Bennett E, Ledesma, Gardner ? And that's just the Amex years !

All awful, yes but also all moderately short term (you forgot Al Habsi and "Best" this season too!). We have had good loans though: Ward, Bridge, Bennett(ish), Teixeira, Halford, Bent. It can work, but it really has to be long-term loanees. Short term are invariably complete wasters.

If used correct loans (long and short) can be benefical BUT we don not seem to be using loans correctly. If a player is brought in on loan that adds to the exisitng squad base and can bring an imporvment to the team great and as others have quoted we have done. However when you are bringing in average players that are no better than what we have and then playing them ahead of your own that is bullshit.
This season we have had 2 loan players that have improved the team (Halford and Tex) and I think we overplayed Tex.

Trouble is of the loans that we've had that have been good in the last few years who have we signed? They've ended up at other clubs cause the suits have messed about or not wanted to pay the asking price.
