Why do they do it?

They do it at Wembley for England games too.

Who is this for? Anyone arriving late (tossers) can find out from the big screens, friends, phone etc.

Anyone who can't count can also use the same method.

So who is it for please?

I've always disliked it. Even where there is no scoreboard.

Blind people go to football too. I used to be near one in H block at Withdean, who had a radio with earphones to listen to the commentary. I believe there is a special service for the blind at the Amex.

Useful for those who fall asleep watching us pass the ball sideways and back just in front of our penalty area.

I'm sure a blind person is still fully aware of the score without needing to hear it over the tannoy.
