Take a coat. A waterproof one. And a spare one to wear when the other one is drying out.

Been several times, it's quite wild and windswept (think of lakeland weather, very similar). Lovely scenery over the hills and on the coast. Towns are a bit drab, especially Douglas. Hotels are mixed - Mount Murray Country Club is nice (out of town), Sefton is Ok, the Palace is not a palace but my favourite is the Claremont, great service, looks like a B&B but very nice inside and reasonably priced. Lots of good, cheap golf on the island if you are interested in that.

What are the good points of the Isle to persuade somebody who has never considered going there for a sort break to do so. Golden this year so want to take wife for short break somewhere already booked for Spain in April and October and Cyprus in July. But where for 2 nights and good dinner any suggestons?

Scenery.....

If you want higher standard of food and hotels and not too far away Jersey or Guernsey are a better bet (weather likely to be better as well). I've lived in both and visited all three dozens of times so if you want any info happy to help.
