Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton admitted that his side were not at their best against Millwall, but feels that a draw is a satisfactory result as the Seagulls moved eight points clear of the bottom three.

The Albion manager was left a little bit frustrated that his side did not take advantage of the Lions’ recent poor form, but has already turned his attentions to Saturday.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was certainly not one of our better performances; we changed the formation and tried to go with two upfront which I felt could get the goals that we needed, but we needed to play better on the day.

“I thought that we had a decent spell in the second half, particularly when Kazenga [LuaLua] came on and it looked like that would be our best opportunity to win the game as it opened up, but they went a little bit more direct and it was always a possibility they might get something on a second ball.

“It’s disappointing because with the form that Millwall have shown at home, we were disappointed not to come here and get a win, but probably at this stage of the season you’ve got to look at it as another point.

“Other results went in our favour and we roll onto the next one.”

Hughton was pleased that fellow strugglers Wigan were beaten 2-0 by promotion-chasing Watford, but insists it is important not to be too distracted by the fortunes of others.

“It’s good news, but we have to look after ourselves. The ideal way would be to win at the weekend and then get a result here, but we’ve got eight games left and it’s incredibly tight at the top and where we are as well.

“That’s the type of league this is and I certainly don’t expect to get any easier games than today during the remainder of the season and that’s going to be the same for every team.”

The Albion boss then delivered some good news on Beram Kayal, after the midfielder was substituted at half time due to injury and also praised the club’s fans for their tremendous support.

“He’s [Beram] somebody that’s played a lot of games in a short period of time and had not played too many matches before that, so yes it was a knock in the end, but hopefully he’ll be okay.”

“The fans were not only excellent in terms of the numbers that turned up, but they were very vocal right the way through and at the end as well.

“They travelled a long way and could’ve been disappointed at the end because they didn’t get the result or win they wanted, but they stayed and they were very vocal.
