Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse banned for spitting

The Football Association has banned Manchester United's Jonny Evans for six games and Newcastle's Papiss Cisse for seven matches for spitting.
Evans, 27, had denied the charge which related to an incident with Cisse in Manchester United's 1-0 win over the Magpies on Wednesday.
"Mr Evans denied the charge but it was found proven," said an FA statement.
Cisse, 29, accepted the charge and has been suspended for an extra game as he has already received a ban this season.

Cisse yes, Evans though no as not the type of player who would do this in my view

More than a deliberate elbow to the head? Jedinak should have had a similar punishment. It doesn't make any sense.

100% agree.

But he did do it.

Whether or not he's the 'type of player who would do this' is irrelevant.

Really, I was talking about form and what type of player they are but as usual and true to form you read it another way

At least there is some consistency here, a six match ban for spitting at another player. There are plenty of players, including Jedinak, who regularly get away with using their elbows and escape without punishment.

It is odd though that presumably Cisse could have chinned Evans and would have received less of a ban than spitting at him. And if the ref had seen either of the incidents presumably the FA would have done F All?

Absolutely absurd punishment. Spitting although unpleasant and should be discouraged but it never hurt anybody or threatened an injury to end their career. Should have been 3 games maximum as per a straight red card.

Apparently spitting spreads TB so does hurt people!
