Brighton have admitted to making a "technical" error and are reviewing procedures after being fined for breaking agent regulations.
The Championship side broke Football Association rules during the transfer of Charlton’s Dale Stephens to the club in January 2014.
Brighton have also been warned over their future conduct, along with authorised agents Alex Levack, Matthew Kleinman and Ali Rahnama, two of whom have been fined.
All three agents have also been suspended from all transfer activity for varying periods.
A Brighton statement read: "We accept that we have been punished in this instance on a technicality, having trusted the word of two licensed agents who we had dealt with several times previously.*
"The FA accepts neither the club nor any of its employees acted dishonestly. Similarly we accept the FA's findings and as a result have already reviewed our internal procedures when dealing with agents."
The fine is £90,000, although the agents fees' due to paid by the club of £65,000 have been waived - meaning the remaining £25,000 is the amount payable by Brighton.*
An FA statement on Wednesday revealed that agents Mr Levack and Mr Kleinman had been fined £7,500 and suspended from all agency and intermediary activity for a period of 14 months.*
Seven months of that suspension begins immediately until September 16 with the remaining seven months suspended for 12 months.
The statement added: "The suspended part of the suspension will not take effect unless either person commits another offence contrary to agents’ regulations or the FIFA regulations on working with intermediaries before September 16, 2016.
“Mr Rahnama has been suspended from all agency activity and intermediary activity for a period of nine months and three months of that suspension shall be immediate until May 16.
“The suspended part of the suspension will not take effect unless, prior to 16 May, 2016, Mr Rahnama commits an offence contrary to the agents regulations or the FIFA regulations on working with intermediaries.”
