CHRIS HUGHTON praised the individual displays of Inigo Calderon and Joao Teixeira in Brighton & Hove Albion’s victory over Birmingham City; with the Spaniard scoring his first-ever brace on his 200th appearance for the club.
*
He said, “Calde is one of these players that keeps going. He can have a period of the game where he is perhaps not having his best spell or he looks a little tired or a little drained, and then he comes again.
*
“He is a lad who has got very high energy and he has a very good playing relationship with Bruno, with them both having played as attacking full backs. They link up well down that right hand side.“He can be an enigma. Sometimes he ends up in positions that he shouldn't be in.* He takes chances and occasionally towards the end of the game when you are hanging on you don't really want him out of position on the left wing, but that is what you get with him!
“Joao is what he is; He is an offensive player and he is a creative player, but with that comes a downside in that sometimes he can be a little bit loose with the ball, but when he is on his game he is a very good player.
“That can sometimes be in the same game and all that you can hope for is that in the good periods he can create and – as he has done in a couple of games now – score two goals.”

But GARY ROWETT was left bemoaning another defeat to a side fighting towards the bottom end of the table and admitted his players could have shown more determination to get a result.

He said, “It wasn’t a great performance by any stretch of the imagination and to come away and score three, particularly after only conceding 15 goals in 17 games, you would expect that to give you something.“The game was a bizarre one to be part of and unfortunately it was an example of us not managing the small moments in games and taking advantage of them.
“We’ve had two or three good chances in the first half even though we’ve not played great. Clayton [Donaldson] has had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, [Andrew] Shinnie’s had one where it’s dropped down and then we get a penalty on the stroke of half time.
*
“If Brighton had gone in 2-1 down at half time then the game becomes a bit of a different proposition and puts the pressure on them.
*
“We’ve lost to Blackpool down near the bottom, we’ve lost to Brighton and we’ve lost to Millwall, so that’s three teams we could have put a bit of daylight between and we’ve not managed to do that; so maybe Brighton had a bit more desire today, which almost hurts me as a manager to say.”
