Solly March is expected to miss most of Albion’s fight against relegation from the Championship.
Scans have confirmed the versatile young attacker faces a lay-off of five to six weeks with a lower leg bone fracture.
March sustained the injury in a tackle by Nottingham Forest’s American defender Eric Lihaj in the early stages of the last home game against Nottingham Forest.

He also suffered calf damage in the challenge, which went unpunished by the referee to the annoyance of Albion manager Chris Hughton.
Eight of the Seagulls’ remaining 15 games are crammed into the next four weeks, beginning with Birmingham’s visit today.
March, called up to the England under-21s squad last summer, has been restricted to 11 Championship appearances this season.
He returned to action at the end of November after four months out with a stress fracture of the back sustained in a pre-season friendly.
Albion’s under-21s lost 1-0 at bottom club Stoke yesterday in their first game under caretaker Simon Rusk following Simon Ireland’s switch to QPR.
Under-18s coach Rusk, promoted to temporary charge while the Seagulls seek a replacement for Ireland, watched his side lose to a 63rd-minute Tomi Adeloye penalty, conceded by Will Collar for a trip.
Strugglers Wigan failed to make up ground on Albion last night as they lost 3-0 to Charlton, who moved up six places to 12th. Frederic Bulot, Igor Vetokele and Chris Eagles got Charlton’s goals as the Latics stayed six points behind the Seagulls.
