Jemma Peacock lives locally to me, the simple fact is she needs help, if this petition goes some way to providing that, then I think is worth a minute of your time to sign it, please do it if you can.

“Jemma Peacock, 31, is a mother of two beautiful strong girls and suffers from a rare form of cancer. It can’t be cured, but there are drugs available to give her and other GIST sufferers a chance for a longer life. Unimaginably the third cancer drug that could prolong her life has just been withdrawn by NHS England.”

The studies it refers to indicate that the drug is effective in prolonging the life of those suffering like the poor woman mentioned in the opening post.

It is ironic that if only sufferers like her were treatable with this drug that approval for its funding would have been granted.

The funding report's conclusion implies that if it were useful only for metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) then it would be approved as there are only about 100 patients a year and at a weekly cost per patient of about £1,000 this would be affordable, (approx £5M per year).

However as the report notes the drug has been approved in the EU for 'treatment' of bowel cancer, the second most fatal cancer in the UK - if regorafenib were added to the list of prescribable drugs in the NHS by NICE then with 100,000 bowel cancer sufferers the cost could be potentially as high as £5 billion pounds per year!
