Stockdale 8: Three very good saves, also played the best through ball with a 70 yard kick that split the Wednesday defence
Calderon 6: One excellent block in the second half, but looks desperately vulnerable to anyone with pace running at him
Bennett 6: Solid if unspectacular
Greer 6: Marshalled things well at the back, too many route one clearances
Dunk 6: As for Greer
Ince 6: Broke things up well and some good forays forward. Missed our best chance.
Bruno 7: Maverick, seemed to play in every position, for some of the match he was our most forward player. Some good balls interspersed with random stray passes and popping up in places.
Kayal 4: Struggled to make an impact
Tex 6: Looked the most creative player but goes down more enthusiastically than Graham Norton stuck in a lift with a boy band.
Baldock 5: Feel sorry for him, played out of position, clearly has talent but very peripheral
Best 5: Looks good out wide and some good crosses.......but he is our one striker and so should be on the receiving end of them.

Subs

CMS 4: Failed to improve our chances of scoring
Stephens 6: Composed but ultimately ineffective
Halford 3: Crocked two minutes after coming on so limped about. His late throw in from the edge of the box was more effective than all our corners and free kicks

Well done

What did you post with? What machine, what browser, what NSC template and did you get any warning messages?

Was the original message timestamped at 21:23 or 21:25 when you made your post?

PC
IE11
Classic

Used the "Reply with quote" button
When I clicked to post, I got the "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" option window.
Clicked "leave this page" which then took me to the "go advanced" page.
Didn't click on "post reply" cos that tells you that you can't post within 60 secs.

The post timings kept the same throughout, no alterations.
I knew my post would go above the OP.

Hope that helps.

Stockdale - 8: outstanding saves won us a point
Calderon - 6: good block during second half, but fluffed one of few chances we had to score
Greer - 7: best he has played for a long time
Dunk - 7: was solid all game
Bennett - 6: wasted a really good chance
Ince - 6: played the holding position well
Bruno - 7: out of position, but coped really well in tough conditions
Tex - 6: tried to do too much too often
Baldock - 6: did okay as a striker playing out wide
Best - 4: shit. Can't hold up or chase down balls = not a good lone striker

Stephens - 5: not long enough
Halford - 5: brilliant throw-in towards the end was genuinely our best delivery into the box
CMS - 5: should have used O'Grady for his heading and hold up utility

Pitch - 1: acne-ridden teenagers have a smoother face than that surface.

Journey up north - 1: horrible because of the unfortunate road closures - no pub time per kick off :(

Seems reasonable, though I thought Baldock did some nice stuff in the first half, albeit in areas where he's not likely to score goals. Also thought Stephens, in his short cameo, looked like the only player who wanted to try and control the ball (by that stage, we just seemed to have descended into a horrific, whack-it-anywhere mode). Teixeira had one of his games where he does your head in. Looks like he might create something, but more often loses it, plays the wrong pass, or goes down infuriatingly weakly. Wasn't massively impressed with what I saw of Best's effort. But perhaps he's that kind of player...

Stockdale or Bruno probably the only MoM candidates for me.

The 0-0 scoreline suggests a bore fest, it definitely wasn't one for the purists but IMO it was fairly entertaining with a lot of end to end stuff and dire finishing.

A point earned but sadly not the result we really need. However TBH we never quite looked like scoring.

We also survived some real scares in defence, so credit for some decent saves and last ditch tackles that kept us in the game. Sheff Weds missed the best chances of the game, although Ince was also guilty of missing the target from 10 yards when unmarked at the far post. On reflection maybe The Albion did well to emerge with a draw.

The pitch made a lottery of some moments and contributed to some defensive errors. It probably didn't help our composure, especially with the elusive final pass plus we got tempted into too many hoofed balls. Many of our dead balls were pretty poor today. We can't afford to miss out when games like this are there to be taken.

We are used to seeing Weds bully us at Hillsborough, often indulged by weak Refs. However today I was disappointed by so many Weds players doing the 'shot by a sniper' routine after fairly ordinary challenges, yet curiously staging miraculously swift recoveries before their Physio arrived. Especially when some of their big units somehow got felled by Tex of all people. I know this blights many other games and we aren't squeaky clean ourselves but to see so many instances in one game was a damning indictment of the Weds coaching philosophy - and of the Ref allowing it to continue.

Stockdale: 8 - MoM. One of his better games, 3 saves kept us in it.
Bennett: 6 - typical mixed bag of a game
Greer: 7 - better defensively but guilty of poor distribution.
Dunk: 7 - solid
Calderon: 7 - typically erratic. But for an outstanding last ditch tackle Calde would have been a 6 at best.
Bruno: 7 - not sure where he was supposed to be playing as he popped up all over the pitch, but somehow this was effective.
Ince: 7 - not his best game. Still had several decent moments. Two scoring chances wasted.
Kayal: 6 - Some nice touches but did not impose himself. Earned a cheap yellow card for an unnecessary challenge early in the game, which blunted his impact.
Baldock: 6 - Nice interplay at times with Tex and Kayal, but never got the final ball in dangerous areas.
Tex: 7 - Frustrating again - good to see his flair causing Weds problems but too often the end result just fizzled out.
Best: 5 - Doesn't seem to be on the same wavelength as those around him.

Stephens: 6 - not able to impose himself when we needed to take the game by the scruff of the neck
CMS: 5 - Peripheral
Halford: 5 - Picked up a knock but before that didn't really seem to know where he was playing

This is surely proof that Warren Aspinall talks nothing but nonsense when commentating. He was saying Best was our best player, excellent all game and couldn't understand why he was taken off. Does WA still scout for us? Maybe this is why we have had so many poor strikers in recent years if he is advising us who to go for!

All his best work was on the flanks. He won a lot in the air but was so isolated there was no benefit to the team.

I would take Warren Aspinalls view over the vast majority on here as he knows what he is talking about, which cant be said for many on here.

Touche.
