Albion’s relegation fears increased with a hugely disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.
Lewis Dunk put Albion ahead but they were 3-1 down by the time substitute Beram Kayal scored on his debut a minute from time.
This was a game Albion should not have lost, having had much the better of the first half and a number of chances in the second.
The Seagulls remain a place above the relegation zone following Millwall’s defeat at home to Huddersfield.
After three defeats on the trot in all competitons - two in the league - Albion head to Cardiff on Tuesday anxious for points.
Both Albion’s centre-backs could have scored in an opening 20 minutes which the home side bossed.
In the tenth minute Gordon Greer escaped his marker to meet Danny Holla’s corner from the left but headed wide of a post from a good position.
Then five minutes later Dunk met Holla’s free-kick with a firm header but goalkeeper Karl Darlow clawed the ball away for a corner at his near post.
Kazenga LuaLua was introduced soon after for a hobbling Solly March, who was brought down by Eric Lichaj for the free-kick from which Dunk almost scored.
Albion were in control for most of the first half and their pressure almost told five minutes before the break when Holla’s free-kick hit the angle of crossbar and post, then in the follow-up Dunk was sent tumbling by James Collins but no penalty was given.
Two minutes later the Seagulls took the lead as Holla’s free-kick was glanced home by the head of Dunk.
Having worked so hard to gain the lead, Albion gave it up within two minutes as a Collins header from a free-kick went in off the near post with David Stockdale rooted to the spot.
Five minutes into the second half the hosts could have been back in front as Joe Bennett’s cross found its way to Teixeira at the back of the area but keeper Darlow saved with his legs.
Teixeira was involved in a lot of Albion’s best moves. He had a shot deflected over the bar on 55 minutes and then could not direct his header on target from Inigo Calderon’s cross soon after.
Against the run of play, Forest went ahead in the 63rd minute when Henri Lansbury drilled a low free-kick through a crowd of players into Albion’s net after Rohan Ince had been cautioned for bringing down Michaeil Antonio on the edge of the box.
Albion responded by hitting the woodwork again, Teixeira’s shot taking a deflection off Jack Hobbs, hitting the far post before rebounding on to Darlow’s back and clear.
It looked to be all over on 86 minutes when Chris Burke burst into the penalty area and pulled the ball back for Ben Osborn to slot home for 3-1.
But a minute from time debutant Kayal, on for Holla, gave Albion hope by heading home a corner.
Then there was a great chance for an equaliser as Kayal hooked the ball over Darlow but substitute Jamaal Lascelles headed off the line.
