Albion striker Chris O'Grady is convinced he will avoid the humiliation of a second successive relegation from the Championship.
O'Grady went down with Barnsley last season and the Seagulls are just outside the drop zone ahead of today's visit by his home city team Nottingham Forest.
The centre-forward told The Argus: "At Barnsley we were chasing from day one. We were bottom of the league after the first game.
"We lost 4-0 at home to Wigan and from that point we were in the bottom three the whole season and chasing to get out of it.
"It's definitely different in that way. Brighton are a massively bigger club - resources and the players and the quality of the squad - so hopefully there's no comparison and this is a temporary situation for Brighton which we can steer away from as soon as possible and get to where they need to be in the league, which is far higher."
O'Grady, released by Forest as a schoolboy, scored against them for Barnsley last season.
The back-in-favour front man, on target twice in the FA Cup for Albion in recent weeks, has yet to strike in 13 Championship appearances.
