Albion*shied away from a deadline day move for Shaun Wright-Phillips, because they refused to be panicked into landing a winger.
Boss Chris Hughton still wants to add a wide man to his squad.
Top target Elliott Bennett, back in favour at Norwich, is currently out of reach so Hughton will wait for the emergency loan window which opens on Tuesday to re-assess the situation.
QPR’s former England international Wright-Phillips, 33, emerged as an option in the final hours of the January transfer window on Monday.
Paul Barber, Albion’s chief executive, said: “Come deadline day we were ready and financially able to take advantage of any late opportunities to add to our existing talent in other areas of the squad – but only on terms that suited our longer-term plans.
“As we said at the start of the transfer window, we expected to be busy, but January is more often than not a sellers’ market and we were determined not to be rushed in to deals that we didn’t think represented good value or that didn’t fit Chris’s plans for the future.”
Albion had the bulk of their business in place ten days before the window closed, recapturing Greg Halford on loan from Nottingham Forest, borrowing Leon Best from Blackburn and buying Beram Kayal from Celtic.
The return to fitness of Kazenga LuaLua, combined with Solly March’s gradual return to peak sharpness after four months out with a stress fracture of the back and the imminent return of Dale Stephens from long-term knee trouble, removed any necessity to jump in with both feet to make a last-gasp signing they might live to regret.
Barber said: “The emergency loan window opens early next week and will provide clubs, including ours, with a final opportunity to tweak their squads.
“We will of course stay alert to any opportunities to strengthen further but, with our January additions and Dale Stephens and Kazenga LuaLua due back imminently, Chris now has excellent options for his starting eleven.”
