Well then. We've arrived at the business end of WHC VIII. THINK before voting. Think about the responsibility placed in your hands. Think about what it means to these magnificent beasts giving their all in these match ups. Think carefully, think hard, think deep. Then give up your vote to the beast most deserving. Don't waste it. You could end a dream and live a nightmare knowing that it was your error that sent the wrong creature through.

You have 24 hours.

So, to the combatants of this first quarter final:

Hippo

Group stage: 3rd Group C
2nd Round: Defeated the Cassowary

The Hippo. In the quarter finals again. This former champion is a formidable beast and knows exactly what it takes to win at this stage of the tournament mixing as he does impressive strength with wanton aggression. The Hippo is a constantly irritable, highly unpredictable monster who is ready to go to war with anyone and anything. This aggression doesn't come from a need to eat-its basically a herbivore(although on occasion it will eat carrion)-it comes from inside, its desire for pure devilment. It is known to attack passing boats just for kicks. Not only that, it has evolved those massive incisor and canine teeth not for eating but purely for fighting. It sharpens them constantly by grinding its teeth together. As an indicator of the Hippo's hardness, it lives in Africa in the same stomping ground as the continents biggest and most deadly apex predators...and all of them avoid confrontation with the Hippo if they can help it.

Vs

Tasmanian Devil

Group Stage: 2nd Group B
2nd Round: Defeated the Tabby Cat

The Tasmanian Devil is an unknown quantity at this stage of the tournament. He's currently in the form of his life, having cruised through Group B and his second round match up. he impressive ease with which he's negotiated the early rounds of the tournament suggest that he should have plenty left in the locker for this match up. So what exactly is he packing for the Hippo? Size isn't the Devil's thing...power is. Small as he is he is a heavily muscled brute who generates one of the highest bite forces per unit body mass of any extant mammal land predator on Earth. He's happy to go up against the bigger creatures in his neck of the woods, hunting and killing prey up to the size of small Kangaroos. He also has a penchant for digging up and devouring cadavers...first ripping out the digestive system, which is the softest part of the anatomy, where they often reside in the resulting cavity while they are eating. Tasmanian devils can eliminate all traces of a carcass of a smaller animal, devouring the bones and fur if desired. This will be a huge test of the Tasmanian Devils hardness but if he comes through the sky's the limit.

Much though I like the prospect of a later wolverine honey badger match up that vicious hippo gets my vote.

Hmm. This is a tricky one. It's like the psychotic short kid at school who always had to take on the biggest kid in the year despite perennially losing after giving a good account of himself. The devil is powerful - and quote nutty - but the hippo is a BEAST. Given the advice to really think about it properly there is nothing for it but....

A bald, fat bloke in a wife-beater vest giving it large to a teenager with a bum-fluff tash swearing in new and inventive ways.

Interesting battle, but neither will be progressing further!

1-0 to the string vested slob!

No one has really stepped up to champion the Tasmanian Devil. Doubt it would ever have had the beating of the hippo but the nominators have let the little fluffball down.
