That was when an Olivier Giroud double and an unkind deflection sent Gus Poyet's Albion side to a 3-2 defeat in a pulsating contest.
The game is probably best recalled by Home fans for Leo Ulloa's goal in his first game in English football.
Giroud was outstanding against an Albion defence which lost Gordon Greer to injury in the first half.
It was the injury which ultimately led to Matt Upson joining the club.
Ashley Barnes nodded the first equaliser as he got in front of Wojciech Szczesny and later sent over a superb cross for Ulloa to make it 2-2 with a diving header right in front of the North Stand.
Ulloa also had a first-half goal ruled out for a tight looking offside call.
Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere turned the game after going on as subs, although the latter's winner on 85 minutes needed a deflection off Adam El-Abd to take it past Casper Ankergren.
Arsenal have won all four of the previous FA Cup ties between the clubs, three of them in Sussex, including the contest below in 1987-88.
The Seagulls have beaten the Gunners twice in 14 matches in all competitions.
