Albion ended their long wait for a home win tonight –thanks to three cracking first half strikes.
Sam Baldock scored an early opener and Joao Teixeira struck twice in a 3-2 win over Ipswich at the Amex.
Darryl Murphy cancelled out Baldock’s strike and sub Freddie Sears pulled one back on 78 minutes.
But the Tractor Boys never really looked like getting the win that would have taken them top.
Baldock cut inside on to his right foot to send a superb finish past Bartosz Bialkowski on 12 minutes.
Murphy quickly glanced Town level from Noel Hunt’s cross.
But Albion, playing with enterprise in attack, should have regained the lead quickly.
Rohan Ince had a header cleared off the line by Hunt and the industrious Chris O’Grady blazed a great chance over.
Teixeira restored the lead on 38 minutes when he jinked away from four tackles and saw his effort from just outside the box fly in via a slight deflection off Cole Skuse.
The Portuguese dazzler then thrashed home Joe Bennett’s cutback right-footed in added time.
Baldock blazed a good chance straight at Bialkowski after the break as the Seagulls played some lovely stuff at times.
But Sears went through a gap in the defence to cut the lead, seconds after Leon Best had gone on as sub for his Albion debut.
Murphy poked a late chance wide for the visitors but that was their only real threat in the finale as Albion completed a win they needed – and deserved.
