What an odd comment. People's reactions to negative events often show the true strengths and character of a person.

Suppose you were with a work colleague you felt indifferent to, and they helped someone who had collapsed, would you not reconsider your opinion of them?

it would yes. I would probably think he's a nice chap for helping that person but he is still a complete p***k for kicking that puppy in the park last week.

Always look at the big picture and all policies within a manifesto!

In addition....would you expect Hallande to have acted and reacted any differently to the events in Paris?

He could have reacted very differently. For example Bush's reaction, and language, was markedly different to that of Holland.
