ALBION boss Chris Hughton has admitted his Championship strugglers must rectify their atrocious record at the Amex.
The Seagulls were beaten 1-0 by promotion challengers Brentford in Hughton's first home game in charge after a hat-trick of away wins. They have won two league games at the Amex all season, the fewest in the Championship and one of the worst home records in the country.
Hughton said: “It’s something that we need to do something about. At the end of the season it is about how many points you get and the reality is it doesn’t matter where you get those points from, but certainly we need to start getting more points at home.
“It is striking that balance. We’ve had three good results away and a poor result at home. It’s about getting the right balances in the team and making it a tough place to come.
“Although Brentford missed some chances, as we did, I certainly think they went away thinking it was a tough enough game for them. We have got to make sure that’s the case but with a different result.”
League One toilers Leyton Orient, Colchester and Yeovil, and Hartlepool at the foot of League Two, have also won two home games.
York and Gus Poyet’s Sunderland have only won once in front of their own fans, but Sunderland along with two-time home winners Hull, Aston Villa and Leicester have played fewer games in the Premier League.
Albion, still 19th, will go into Wednesday’s home match against second-placed Ipswich a place closer to the relegation zone if Leeds avoid defeat against leaders Bournemouth at Elland Road tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, French trialist Jeremy Balmy has another run-out in the under-21s in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the training ground in Lancing tomorrow (12.30). QPR, who were due to provide the opposition, pulled out because of a fixture clash.
