Talking Point: Albion getting it right off the pitch as well [The Argus]

It is not just on the pitch that Albion are improving with Chris Hughton in charge.
They are acting more quickly and decisively off the field when the need arises as well.
How many times in the past have supporters complained about the club dragging their feet on contract renewals?
Or letting a signing slip from under their noses?
Sometimes the protests have been justified, sometimes not.
Already in 2015 the Seagulls have swooped twice to aid both their short and long-term playing prospects.
Injured Kazenga LuaLua has been awarded a new three-and-a-half year contract.
Greg Halford has been recaptured from Nottingham Forest for the rest of the season.
Although Hughton is aware of LuaLua's explosive talents from their time together at Newcastle, negotiations had been under away to secure the winger's future long before his appointment.
LuaLua, Lewis Dunk, Solly March and Christian Walton are all now under contract until June 2018, Jake Forster-Caskey until 2017, Rohan Ince until the end of next season.
The club have protected their interests and Hughton has a promising nucleus to work with over the course of his deal, which also expires in the summer of 2018.
What about Halford? often-criticised chief executive Paul Barber is playing a more promiment part in transfer activity, with chairman Tony Bloom in Australia and head of football David Burke sacked on Christmas Eve.
Barber did not mess about in the face of competition for Halford from Championship rivals Millwall and Fulham. A deal was swiftly struck with Forest to keep the utility player for the remainder of the campaign.
He will be a useful asset for Hughton after performing solidly at centre-half during the injury absence of captain Gordon Greer.
Hughton has already deployed Halford from the bench on the left side of midfield at Brentford and in front of the back four late-on at Charlton last Saturday to retain a slender lead.
LuaLua and Halford are contrasting types, but clinching deals for both is an indication that those moans about time-wasting may be about to become less frequent.
