Brighton & Hove Albion chief executive Paul Barber has condemned a cowardly attack by thugs on Charlton Athletic's LGBT supporters group ahead of yesterday's game between the two clubs at the Valley.The Charlton Rainbows were sent a hoax invite to meet with a group they believed to be a similar one to their own, but were then subjected to an orchestrated attack by homophobic thugs - who the group confirmed were not supporters of either club.

Barber said, "It is appalling that anyone would want to behave in such a way. Quite why anybody would go to these lengths is beyond all of us at Brighton & Hove Albion and we condemn any type of homophobic behaviour."All homophobic abuse is abhorrent and unacceptable, but this was a violent, unprovoked and premeditated attack on a group of peaceful football supporters on their way to a match.
"Thankfully none of the Charlton supporters were seriously injured - thanks in part to swift intervention from the police and other supporters - but nonetheless we will do everything we can to assist the Met Police and Sussex Police to identify the perpetrators."
