I went to have a look on the sunderland fans forum , to se how they feel bridcutt and buckley were doing.
I was surprised to se how many threads there was for gus to go. They say his coaching skills are non existent, he mouthsoff to much about the budget etc.
A large portion of the fans want sherwood.

His strategy is to play for a draw, but hope to snatch a win against the run of play when the opposition makes a mistake. He is now known as the draw specialist for Sunderland in the Premiership as he was with us in the Championship.

Would love to see him at Leeds. Be interesting to see what he makes of their glass ceiling.
He'll cling on for any team in the PL though once he parts ways with Sunderland. Maybe a bottom 3 club would take a punt on him having another lucky escape.
He'll never be a "top manager" though.

A return to Swinedon Town would appear to be his best option. The Wearside natives on readytogo.com seem disgruntled with the tediocre football being served up.

This is largely true, although with us there was still an element of "we're better than the opposition, so we'll open them up with our skill" which could be seen against the mid table and lower sides. Against the top teams we were invariably poor, exemplified through caginess and a reluctance to take the game to the opposition despite being just as good as them.

Yep, when it comes to the crunch it compromises the winning mentality of the players for the big games, because they only know how to play within Gus’s comfort zone. You don’t really learn anything if you are not prepared to take risks.

a sunderland fan on 606 yesterday was banging on about how gus says he is doing the best he can with the players he has, moaning about budget etc

i laughed.......deja vu

Why should he behave any different, it's how he does things, he'll be the same anywhere - even Chelsea. I don't see why anyone is surprised.

The Jury is out. Was his time at Brighton his golden age of management? The closing matches at Sunderland suggested not but then was that mainly because they assumed they were down, relaxed and came out of their Poyet style shell? It's an interesting ongoing saga. The guy could still go on to be one of the greats and make some of us look a bit silly or he might go on to be just another journeyman manager who realises late that past successes were just as much down to other people's efforts as his own 'genius'.

the same fan was moaning about how negative the football was and how they were just set up to defend. something that a lot of people seem to have forgotten about the brighton poyet era once we were in the championship.

Don't know what sunderland expect really, they are not going down not will they challenge for much in the top half.

He kept them up and got to a cup final

The trouble with Sunderland is that the supporters (like many of us sometimes) actually believe their club are 'big' and have a divine right to success, even in the premiership.

For me, Sunderland are nothing more than a perennial struggler with a large fan base, who only turn up when they are doing well. Perhaps Poyet's main success is actually keeping them in the premiership. I certainly don't class them as 'big' as Tottenham, Everton or even Newcastle (though the latter also try and live on past glories).

I think they should be careful what they wish for.

When was the last time they challenged for anything?
