Boss Chris Hughton praised Albion’s resilience as two late goals earned them a 2-0 victory at Brentford in the FA Cup.
Brentford dominated the first half and carved out a number of good opportunities after the interval but were unable to take advantage as they slipped to a third successive defeat.
The Seagulls were hardly in the game before the break but improved in the second half and scored through Lewis Dunk and Chris O’Grady in the final two minutes.
Hughton said: “We had to ride our luck a little bit against a very good passing team but we defended well. We were very resilient at the back and we had to be.
“They might have had more of the ball in the box and David Stockdale had to make a couple of good saves but I felt we had the better chances.
“It was great to get off to a win and that is now back to back victories for the team which will hopefully give the players more confidence.”
Hughton also praised skipper Gordon Greer who helped Albion keep a clean sheet on his return from injury and O’Grady who scored his first goal for the club.
He added: “Gordon is a big player for us on and off the pitch. We all know what a captain can give a changing room and give to a team and I thought he was excellent.
“Chris did well for the second goal but he had a great chance to score five or ten minutes before. “It is all about opportunities, any player will tell you that. He has had an opportunity in the last two games and has made a good impact in both.”
