Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs is relishing the prospect of facing Lewes in a Sussex derby at the Dripping Pan on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.Albion’s first fixture of 2015 is against a Rookettes side managed by former Seagulls boss John Donoghue, with a host of other players having connections to both clubs.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s a huge game for us, as we’re playing for the pride of Sussex in what should be a highly-competitive local derby. A lot of players have moved between the two clubs as well, with some ex-Brighton players now playing for Lewes, so there’s a lot to play for and it should be a very close game.
“I’ve watched them a couple of times and know that they work very hard and I’m sure they will have that extra incentive playing against Brighton.
“I’m expecting them to be a very tough and compact side to play against and we need to match their work rate right until the final whistle.
“Sometimes these games are not about ability, it’s just down to who wants to work harder and which team wants to do that extra bit to get over the finish line.”

After a two-week break from competitive action, Marrs says his players will be raring to go come Sunday and he has been delighted with the intensity of training over the festive period.“We’ve been in during the Christmas break and worked hard in the cold conditions.Training has been very good and we've run the turkey out of them!
“There will be no excuses come Sunday; we’ll be well prepared in order to get a good result. It’s nice to have a little break, but if it’s too long then you end up having to start all over again.
“We haven’t got any breaks coming up for the foreseeable future and we’re hoping to get up and running again and continue our fantastic run of form.”
